BLESSINGS FROM HEAVEN

WHEN WE SAY WE ARE BLESSED, WHAT DOES THAT MEAN TO YOU?

  • Luke 6:20-23 (NIV) 20 Looking at his disciples, he said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. 22 Blessed are you when men hate you, when they exclude you and insult you and reject your name as evil, because of the Son of Man. 23 “Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, because great is your reward in heaven. For that is how their fathers treated the prophets.

To most Jewish people in Jesus’ time, the word “blessing” evoked images of…
  • a long life,
  • wealth,
  • a large, healthy family,
  • a full barn, and
  • defeated enemies.

But Jesus tells us that in order for us to be truly blessed and happy in this world it starts with an inward attitude towards circumstances – it needs to be one of unwavering faith in God

So many of us fall into the trap of thinking that happiness comes from
  • having great possessions, or
  • holding an exalted position, or
  • enjoying the pleasures and
  • popularity that money can buy.

But Jesus tells us that that no amount of “things” can substitute for a personal relationship with God the Father.  If we put God first and pursue relationship with Him then we enjoy our best life now AND then comes heaven (even more blessings!).  We can have our cake and eat it too if we would seek His ways first and foremost.

Circumstances, to a person who sees with the eyes of faith and the values of heaven, are not a hindrance to us experiencing joy and happiness.

We are joyful in spite of because God is in control and He has our best interest at heart and that is attitude!

Are we growing up in our walk with God or are we still being babies and wanting to walk away from God when it seems like we are not experiencing life the way we want God to bless us?
