Psalm 101 - 5.12.25

Scripture

Psalms‬ ‭101‬:‭2‬ ‭NIV‬‬

“I will be careful to lead a blameless life— when will you come to me? I will conduct the affairs of my house with a blameless heart.”

Observation

This is a psalm of David. In it, David makes a commitment to rule his kingdom with justice and integrity. David vows to avoid sinful behavior and sinful people, while he surrounds himself with godly people. David yearns to provide godly leadership in his home, and for his people.

Application

Being a strong godly leader requires a commitment to pleasing God, and keeping His ways.

And that is what David shows us in this psalm. In verse 2 David vows to live a life of integrity.

“I will be careful to live a blameless life— when will you come to help me? I will lead a life of integrity in my own home.”-Psalms‬ ‭101‬:‭2‬ ‭

In verses 3 and 4 David vows to stay away from evil.

“I will refuse to look at anything vile and vulgar. I hate all who deal crookedly; I will have nothing to do with them. I will reject perverse ideas and stay away from every evil.”-Psalms‬ ‭101‬:‭3‬-‭4‬ ‭

In verses 5 through 8 David vows to surround himself with godly people and cleanse his kingdom of wickedness and injustice.

“I will not tolerate people who slander their neighbors. I will not endure conceit and pride. I will search for faithful people to be my companions. Only those who are above reproach will be allowed to serve me. I will not allow deceivers to serve in my house, and liars will not stay in my presence. My daily task will be to ferret out the wicked and free the city of the Lord from their grip.”-‭‭Psalms‬ ‭101‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭

In short, this psalm shows us the importance of a leader setting an example of integrity and justice, which in turn can influence an entire nation to follow suit.

Prayer

Father God, You call me to lead. You call me to draw out others the way You have drawn me out. I ask and pray for the boldness and courage to lead the way You call me to lead. May it start in my own home, and trickle into my workplace, and church. Help me to lead with integrity and justice. May I lead in a way that honors Your ways. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. 🙏🏽
