Proverbs 2 - 8.12.26

Scripture: Proverbs 2:1 - 5

1 My son, if you accept my words
and store up my commands within you,

turning your ear to wisdom
and applying your heart to understanding—

indeed, if you call out for insight
    and cry aloud for understanding,

and if you look for it as for silver
and search for it as for hidden treasure,

then you will understand the fear of the Lord
and find the knowledge of God.

Observation

Do you ever read something in the Bible and think - THIS! Today I read Acts 15 and then Leviticus 20. Then I got to Proverbs 2 and these verses jumped right off the page. I absolutely love that regardless of how many times we might have read a portion of scripture before, God will speak a new fresh word to us - exactly what we need to hear in that moment in our life.

Application

Last week I was sharing with someone that sometimes I struggle with anxiety. When that happens, I will write out Bible verses on sticky notes and place them on the bathroom mirror, my refrigerator, or my monitor at work - God’s promises comfort and calm me. But I know God wants more from me. I need to store up his commands inside me, meditate on them, and allow them to change me.

I want more of God’s wisdom. I want to understand the fear of the Lord and the knowledge of God. If I want more of Him, I need to apply myself to truly seeking after Him.

Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”

Prayer

God, thank you for your promise to reveal yourself when we truly seek you. Forgive me for my sometimes half-hearted attempts. Nudge me and remind me of all you have in store for me if I would dedicate myself to seeking more of You. Thank you for this word to me today. May I honor you with my obedience.
