Galatians 1 - 6.25.25

Scripture

But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let them be under God’s curse! (Gal 1:8)

Observation

Paul warns against false gospel or additions to the gospel. The Galatians were led to believe that they could earn salvation by good works or by following the law. Paul very clearly explains throughout the epistle that we are saved by grace only by putting our faith in the finished work on the cross by Jesus Christ.

Paul goes on to say that any teaching contrary to this, should not be accepted even if it is supposedly given by an angel from heaven!

Application

Thank God that we are saved through grace. Thank God for his Word which is eternally set in heaven (Ps 119:89). John reminds us that in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the word was God, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among men. (John 1: 1,2,14). Jesus and his word are the same. Jesus is the word who became flesh.

We need to examine any teaching, prophecy or exhortation in the light of God’s word. If the teaching does not line up with the written word of God, we need to reject it, regardless of who is preaching it! This also applies to any direction we feel in our mind. If a thought does not align with the word of God, it is not from God, and we need to reject it.

Let us spend time reading and meditating on the word of God every single day of our life, so that the word of Christ richly dwells in us (Col 3:16). When we renew our mind everyday with the word of God, we will know what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God (Rom 12:2).

Prayer

Father, I pray that you will give me a desire for your word. Let your word be a lamp unto my feet, and a light to my path (Ps 119:105). Let the word of Christ dwell richly in me (Col 3:16). Help me to discern the voices that are not from you, by examining them in the light of your word. Help us to be like the Bereans who received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what was heard was true (Acts 17:11). Help me to renew my mind everyday with your word. Make my life a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to you (Rom 12:1). In Jesus’s name. Amen
