2 Corinthians 4 - 2.6.26

Scripture: 2 Corinthians 4:6-9

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.

Observation:

God is about bringing light where there is darkness.  He makes that light shine in our hearts which gives us knowledge of His glory.

I love the image of treasures in jars of clay.  The clay jars were used in every day tasks. Yet, this is what God shines His glory through. God uses the ordinary, aka us.  It is evident the power is His power and not our own. This brings him honor and glory.  We will have trials and challenges but they will not break us as we walk in His strength.

Application:

As I was reading the last lines of my Observation I got a picture of a super hero with blasts of something hitting him, but he was not harmed.  They were just bouncing off.  We are under God’s shield when we have His light in our hearts.

I want to lean into looking at Jesus’s face.  Looking at someone indicates you are spending time with them.  I want to be powered up in the word and prayer.  I may be ordinary, but that is exactly how God made me.  He will give me his treasure, light and power to glorify Him

Prayer:

Father God,

Thank you for giving us your light.  You protect us.  Thank you for keeping me from being crushed when I am pressed on every side.  I am so grateful that when things are confusing and I am perplexed, I don’t have to despair.  I may get persecuted and struck down, but I won’t be abandoned or destroyed.  Please help me to see your face and walk in the knowledge you give.   Help me remember in your strength I am not ordinary.  I desire your power to flow through me.  I want to bring glory to your name. Amen
