Loving His Presence

Recently I was reading in Exodus 33 and came across a verse that really resonated with me and I felt it was a word to DSC.  In the story Moses is talking to God about leading the people of Israel and making sure that God would be with them.  Moses tells God that He must be with them because…

  • Exodus 33:16 (NLT) 16 How will anyone know that you look favorably on me—on me and on your people—if you don’t go with us? For your presence among us sets your people and me apart from all other people on the earth.”

I love that last part – “your presence among us sets us apart…”

That has been my prayer for DSC – that God’s presence will be evident among us and that His presence will set us apart.  We are not just striving for good programs and well planned events (we still do those) but more than those things we want the presence of God among us.

When God is present miracles take place, lives are changed for eternity, hearts and bodies are healed, demons flee.

This morning I was reading from Matthew 8 and came across another passage about the presence of God among us and what can happen.

Jesus shows up in the country of the Gergesenes where he casts out demons from two men who were violent under the influence of the demons.  He casts the demons out into a herd of pigs and then the pigs ran into the sea and drowned.  The townspeople come out to see the pigs gone and the two men sitting there calm and normal and they demand that Jesus leave.

It’s crazy right?  They experience the presence of God that leads to a demonstration God’s power and it causes them to panic.  They were in the presence of the One who could control demons, who could control animals and who could restore shattered minds and lives to sanity and they wanted nothing to do with Him.

I am praying for the presence of God to be evident among us but I also pray that when it happens we will not be scared and panicked but that we will embrace God and all that He desires to do in and through us.

Blessings and have a great week.
