Scripture
Esther 8:17a
In every province and in every city to which the edict of the king came, there was joy and gladness among the Jews, with feasting and celebrating.
Observation – What does it say?
What a great ending! The road here wasn’t easy for Mordecai, Esther and the Jewish people. It was paved with a powerful enemy, many tears and fears, desperate prayers and fasting, Esther risking her life, and times where it seemed their destruction was certain. But God, clearly at work in every detail worked everything to this amazing end! The Jewish people were safe, Mordecai had been honored as royalty, Esther was still queen, and everyone was throwing a party because of their exceeding joy.
Understanding – What does it mean?
The journey is often crazy, filled with trials and what appears to be major setbacks on the way. Think about Joseph sold as a slave and then made a prisoner before ruling in Egypt. Think about Abraham waiting for what seems like much too long before his wife was able to conceive. Think about all of creation falling into sin and groaning as it eagerly awaits the redemption of all things.
If it isn’t good, it isn’t over.
