28 Days: Day 5

  • Acts 2:42-47

 “They devoted themselves to prayer…”

If we are to be a Great Commission Movement then this is one of the non-negotiables.  We have talked about prayer at Desert Streams for many years but still we lack this very important ingredient – an absolute devotion to prayer

Disciples of Jesus have some duties to perform.  According to the first church, the important duties were – being taught the scriptures, being involved in doing life together with other believers, being Christ-centered in their living and being people of prayer.  If we are not devoted to these things then God is not the highest priority of our lives.  Ouch that’s harsh – but still true.

  • John 14:13-14 (NIV) 13  And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. 14  You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.

Jesus tells us that if we pray and ask for anything then He will do it.  Are we relentlessly pursuing God’s provision in every area of our lives – corporately and individually?

The devotion to prayer is key to the power of God demonstrated in the lives of believers.

What would it look like if we were all devoted to praying together?  I believe the results would be phenomenal.  I wonder if there are any of you who are feeling a holy discontent for the way things are and you are longing for the way things ought to be?  You know it only takes just a few who are willing to pursue an absolute devotion to prayer, will you be one?  Could this be the time where the Called at DSC will rise up and begin to pursue prayer in such a way that it releases a torrent of souls saved?

Will you say yes to prayer?  Join us on Sunday mornings at 9:20am.  You are part of the prayer team that powers a Great Commission Movement.

The Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved (vs. 47) because they were living out the 2 greatest commandments. They loved God and loved each other. The rest just flowed from there.

    Acts 2
Those who the message were baptized, and that day about 3.000 people were added to them. And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, to the fellowship, and to the breaking of bread, and to the prayers.”
So what caused these people to believe? Peter stood up boldly, and proclaimed the Word of the Lord to the men of Judah, and the residents of Jerusalem as to what He had personally witnessed! He had witnessed the resurrection of Jesus!
“Therefore” let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, Whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah!”

    Acts 2:43
“And a sense of awe (reverential fear) came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were performed through the apostles (the special messengers).”
What is God saying to me?
What is nearest and dearest to God’s heart?
“God SO loved the world that He gave His ONE and ONLY son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

What am I going to do about it?
The Power of God was evident in the early church because they each had a “deep sense of reverential fear of God. This is truly a sign that God is at work changing hearts.

I ask for forgiveness for the times I am more concerned with what people think than focusing on your heart and mind for me. I pray for a heightened awareness and a deep sense of awe for You. Tenderize my heart again.
I desire to begin back at the very beginning and press forward.
I ask for more passion in my prayer time with you. Remind me Lord that I am talking not to empty space, but face-to-face with My personal Savior and The Holy of Holies and God of Heaven and Earth…who IS able to do ALL things..infinitely more than I could dare ask or hope. I thank you that time spent with you results in answered prayers.
Praise your Holy Name, Jesus! Amen.
